About

I am a multimedia artist living in Southern Ontario.  My prior video and performance work was influenced by 1960s and 70s feminist performance art; I used my body to explore how female sexuality is culturally constructed, displayed and controlled.  This sometimes involved playing with explicitly sexual imagery as a means of refusing the phallic gaze.  Many of these works have been exhibited across Canada and internationally.  My more recent drawing, painting, and print-making works are about subjectivity and political justice.  I am particularly interested in the relationships of self and other under the alienating conditions of late capitalism.  Contemporary society purportedly celebrates the individual and their neighbour as precious and irreplaceable while our collective existence is increasingly threatened by wealth inequality and climate collapse.  I find inspiration for this work in post-impressionist painting, continental philosophy, and collective political activism.  I earned my PhD in Social and Political Thought from York University and my book, Reconsidering Radical Feminism, is available through the University of British Columbia Press.
